Donation Appeal by Minister President Stephan Weil
In August 2014, the Minister President of Lower Saxony, Stephan Weil, appealed to the citizens of the state to financially support humanitarian aid for the victims of terror in Kurdistan/Iraq.
In his appeal he described the dramatic situation of the people who had fled the violence of the terrorist group “Islamic State” into the Sinjar mountains – without water, food or medical care, in temperatures around 40 degrees. Children suffered particularly from the displacement. With hundreds of thousands of refugees in the Kurdistan/Iraq region, local authorities were reaching the limits of what they could provide.
The state government strongly condemned the violence and called for donations to support humanitarian aid – including the relief mission of the Association of Kurdish Doctors in Germany to the crisis region. S.A.Z. Kinderhilfswerk supported this appeal and collected donations for those affected.
